Suggested Packing List
|
29th November 2007
|
Long before the run began and after registration the riders were all given a packing list of the
things that each of them will need to take with them.
- Equipment
- Sleeping bag – good quality preferably with a hood
- Cycling gloves – one pair
- Cycle helmet – essential
- Saddle or gel seat cover (optional but advisable)
- Sunglasses
- Water bottles for bike or ‘camelbak’ – 1 carrier normally provided on each bike
- Bum bag for carrying small items while cycling e.g. camera, sun cream, tissues etc
- Small ‘day’ bag which can be used for extra items and be transported on support vehicle
- Torch
- Camera and film
- Alarm clock
- Carrier bags/bin bags – useful for dirty washing or wet clothing
- Copy of insurance policy / passport
- Clothing
- Cycling tops – one per day (with sleeves covering shoulder)
- Socks – one pair plus spares and extra for evenings
- Cycling shorts – 2-3 pairs (a padded pair is highly recommended)
- Female participants are advised to wear long or ¾ length trousers or knee length shorts over cycling shorts whilst cycling to help prevent harassment
- Warm casual wear for most of week i.e. sweatshirts, tracksuits, jeans
- Cycling shoes – or suitable footwear e.g. trainers
- Spare trainers for general walking
- Scarf to cover back of neck (to avoid sun burn)
- Cap hat to cover head when not wearing helmet
- Waterproof jacket – useful in windy conditions and in case it rains
- Fleeces are always beneficial
- Towels – 2
- Swimming outfit
- Health and Hygiene
- Tissues
- Anti bacterial wet wipes – essential
- Sun Cream (minimum factor 15)
- Lip slave
- Insect repellent
- Small personal medical kit – antiseptic ointment, plasters, knee support, bandage, pain killers, sting relief, diarize, dioralyte, immodium
- Ladies are advised to take sanitary wear/tampons
- Isotonic powders
- Toilet paper
- Ear plugs (sharing with noisy room mates can prevent sleep!)
Pack as lightly as possible, preferably in a soft, robust bag as all luggage is
transported together each day in a truck and needs to be durable. This list is not
exhaustive and also some items may not be required during the trip but it is better
to have them than not.

Message From Donna Cooper
|
30th November 2007
|
"Due to a slight mix up after two bottles of wine on a hot sunny afternoon in London
- Delia and Donna were under the impression that they had to get ALL of this into a
backpack! As Donna had not been able to lift her bag for the Egypt event, Delia
managed to convince her that she would need to travel lighter and a 35L backpack would
do the trick, no problem."

Actual Packing List
|
30th November 2007
|
Equipment
As listed although when Donna said a torch was essential in case anyone had to
move around the tent in the dark - Delia did say, quite rightly, if i tread on
you, you will shout wont you!
Clothing
These changes have HAD to be changed:
- Cycling tops - started with five but down to four.
- Socks - scaled down to five pairs, make do unless really grubby then we could just wash them.
- Warm casual wear for most of the week - seems that a tracksuit is not as necessary as something pretty for if we go out in the evenings!
- Spare trainers for general walking - swapped for sparkly sandals.
- Cap hat - surplus to requirements
- Waterproof jacket - as above
- Fleeces - as above
- Towels - will just see if there is a gap great, if not, as above.
Health and Hygiene
More or less as listed but a little bit of lip gloss just in case!!
